|
This is why EPN has developed 25 Guidelines for Effective and Efficient Pharmaceutical Services, to support health facility managers, pharmaceutical personnel and all those involved in pharmaceutical service delivery to increase access to medicines and improve the quality of patient care. Development of the recommended guidelines for increasing access to essential medicines started in 2004 (Click here to download the report of the first study done in the guidelines project). In the course of the project development, the list of guidelines was expanded to 25 guidelines, grouped under the 6 building blocks for health systems, as defined by the WHO. These 25 guidelines are currently undergoing field-testing for further refinements. An explanatory summary of these guidelines and a powerpoint presentation are available for members (Log on and go to Resources for members). To illustrate the EPN guidelines and pass the message easily, EPN has developed 2 posters that reflect the 25 guidelines visually. These posters are available in printed version for members. Members in action In 2010, EPN member institutions in two countries organized specific interventions to promote and disseminate the guidelines, spearheaded in Ghana by CHAG and in Kenya by Maua Hospital and MEDS. At least 300 church health facilities were reached. Back to the main page Access to and rational use of medicines |
