This course helps learners understand the emergence of AMR its patterns, causes, consequences and practical methodologies to prevent AMR at facility level. It also provides several templates and tools with guidance on how to use them in learner settings. Finally, the course requires the students to create an action plan for their own facilities on how they plan to track the use of antibiotics and prevent AMR.

This course covers COVID-19, its symptoms, management and protecting how healthcare workers protects themselves.

They also face higher risks of infection in their efforts to protect the greater community and are exposed to hazards such as psychological distress, fatigue and stigma.

Rational Drug Use

Rational use of medicines requires that patients receive medications appropriate to their clinical needs, in doses that meet their own individual requirements for an adequate period of time, and at the lowest cost to them and their community. This course will take learners through the development of clinical guidelines, how each member of the clinical team has a role to play in rational use of medicines, establishment of medicine and therapeutics committees and the importance of national essential medicines list. Pharmacovigilance, also known as drug safety, is the pharmaceutical science relating to the “collection, detection, assessment, monitoring, and prevention” of adverse effects with pharmaceutical products. In this course, learners will learn the steps and requirements for performing pharmacovigilance (PV), differentiate between side effects, adverse effects and adverse events, the different parties involved in PV and their roles and data management.

Substandard and Falsified Medicines

According to the WHO, up to two billion people around the world lack access to necessary quality medicines, which creates a vacuum that is too often filled with substandard and falsified products. This course supports learners in understanding basic principles of supply chain systems, identifying substandard and falsified medicines, focusing on visual inspection and its respective follow up activities including reporting to health authorities to promote the use of quality medicines.
